Dorothy Lyon Koelling was born in!1913 at her grandparents'

 

farm in northern Oklahoma. Her parents farmed nearby. Her grand- father made the Cherokee Strip "run" for farm land in 1893. 1

She was five years old when her parents moved to Blackwell, OK, wo ere her father was in real estate. She was only 9 when

 

she "rofessed" at a service with her Sunday School teacher at the Chrt&ian Churc@. She returned, alone the next weekend to be baptized. She tas married in 1932-to.-J. T. Koelling.-I

to provide for a growing family during the depression. The Black- well banks had closed during the 1929 crash. J.T. lost jobs. Her parents brought food from the farm. Mr. Koelling became a bookkeeper for Globe Oil Co. and was transferred to Wichita, KS in 1936. ed accounting through *:WI LaSalle U    Do* received his Certificate and joined an accounting firm. He lat-er became a partner in the Carey Salt Mines. a and The Koellings raised five children. This does not cover Dorothy's outstanding career in fine arts, especially in bronze sculpture.
