I
was 10 years younger than my four brothers and one sister. By the time I was seven, they
were married, and I was "Aunt Sylvia." They all came home on Thanksgiving with
their families. Our dining room table had enough leaves to seat the whole family around
it.
We often had ham or goose
for Thanksgiving. The ham and bacon on the table were cured in our own smokehouse which
gave a special flavor. My father didnt think he'd had lunch unless he had pie for
dessert. So, my mother made the pies! Later that became one of my jobs. I've always
enjoyed making pies.
