Church was always very important. There was never any discussion about going to church on Easter or Sunday. We were always one of the first to arrive because my father said, “If you’re going somewhere, be there on time."

In a small town church, everyone was involved. At Christmas time and other holidays, all the children performed in the programs, reading poems or doing plays.
