THE DESCENDENTS OF

MINNIE ALOUISE BERTHOLF BUMP

1875-1916

The Descendents of

(IV.)   MINNIE ALOUISE BERTHOLF BUMP  1875-1916

IVA.  RUBY BEATRICE BUMP  1899-1985

m. Roy E. Jinkins

Ruby was so especially loved by all the family after the tragic deaths of her father and sister.  The grandparent's home became the home for her and her mother.  For a time they came to the farm to live with Earl, before he was married and Ruby went to the "Belmont Center" country school, an experience she liked to recall.  The "Wichita Folks" and the "Spivey Folks" shared many, many experiences!  Ruby always felt so close to all the cousins because we were like her brothers and sisters.

Tragedy had not left her life, however, for her mother, Minnie, became ill with stomach cancer.  She was lovingly nursed by her mother and all the family, but death claimed her in 1916.  Ruby continued to make her home with her grandparents until she married Roy Jinkins in a lovely wedding in their home.

"Jinx" was a fun-loving handsome man, a veteran of World War I, and their home was a favorite place to visit for all the family.  After Jinx' death in 1955, Ruby continued to work at the Family Consultation Service, working there for a total of 31 years.  After the death of Uncle Lee Hess, Aunt Essie made her home in an apartment in Ruby's house and they had several wonderful years together before Aunt Essie moved to Little Rock to be near Mary Beth.  It was a beautiful example of a strong family tie that lasted through many years and many joys and sorrows!

Ruby lived for a time alone, in a smaller house, then finally in an assisted care facility.  She died following a stroke in June 1985.    Ruby truly loved us all and was interested in every cousin and all our families!  She was always "there" when one needed her!

IVA1. Robert Bruce Jinkins  1920-1991

                                    m. Marcile Riner  (dec. 1997)

Bob was a special little boy (who grew up to be a very tall boy) because his mother was so special to the family.  Born and raised in Wichita, he attended East High where he excelled in sports.  He went on to Wichita University (now Wichita State), where he earned a degree in accounting in 1942, then went back later to obtain another degree in 1950.  He was a letterman "tight end" on the football team and was also an avid golfer.

He was a well-known geologist and consultant and worked for several prominent firms in his 36-year career.  Some of the firms were Petroleum Inc, Sohio, Thunderbird Drilling, National Oil Company, and F&M Oil Company.  He retired in 1986 and he and Marcile moved to Vermont to be close to their family.

Bob and Marcile had gone Maryland to visit Mary Esther, who was in very poor health.  She lived with her daughter Cinda and husband.  While there, Bob suffered a fatal heart attack.  Services were held in Waitsville, VT where Bob and Marcile made their home.

Marcile continued to live in Vermont near their daughters and their families.  Because of the severe winters there, she went to Arizona in the winter of 1996-1997, and there she died on January 8, 1997.  She was a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother and she and Bob had enjoyed several years in the beautiful Vermont area and got to enjoy their family so much.

Occupation: Corp. Training Director

Education: BA degree.

Husband: David Gorges  b. 7-13-47

Occupation: Certified Public Accountant

Education: BA

Robin writes this about their family:  "All the Jinkins sisters are very fortunate to live in close proximity to each other in Vermont.  The scenery is beautiful in all seasons (except maybe "stick season"—after the leaves have fallen in late fall, and ‘mud season’—in early spring, when all the snow melts).    All of us enjoy many of the outdoor winter activities that Vermont has to offer.  Although the winters are long up here, we take advantage of the generous snow and mountains to downhill ski, cross country ski and ice skate in the winter.  All of the children, down to five-year-old Taylor, are good skiers, and enjoy ski racing. We love hiking in the mild summer months.  There are many beautiful vistas and hiking trails (including the famous Long Trail).  We also enjoy swimming, canoeing & kayaking in the Mad River that runs through our valley.  We all also enjoy attending the many outdoor concerts, festivals and farmer's markets that are held throughout the summer. Mountain biking is another favorite for all of us.  Of course, everyone has heard of the beautiful foliage in Vermont in the fall.  So, we all join the many ‘Leaf Peepers’ and do a lot of sight seeing and fall hiking in this season.

I am Training Director of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters- a specialty coffee roasting company.  We purchase specialty Arabica coffee beans from all over the world, roast them in our plant, and sell them to wholesale accounts through our company-owned retail stores and via our mail order division.  I am responsible for managing the training for our employees and customers (that come from as far away as Turkey and Hong Kong). David is a self-employed CPA in Waterbury Vermont.  He has an opportunity to travel back to Kansas about four times a year, to work with clients there.  This is a great opportunity to visit with his brothers and sisters back home.  Our family hobbies: we all enjoy spending time with each other, doing outdoor activities year ‘round, gardening and reading.
